Why Are We Still Obsessed With the Kardashians?
In case you haven’t heard, Kylie Jenner was pregnant and recently announced that she had her baby Stormi after months of speculation that she was pregnant. She, along with sister Khloe, are the latest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan to have offspring.
However, as Jenner’s pregnancy makes the news, I must ask why is it important.
The Kardashian-Jenners rose to fame a little over ten years ago in a little show called Keeping Up With The Kardashians. It began in 2007 to follow then stylist Kim around in her daily endeavors. The show is now in its 14th season, and continues to maintain its popularity.
Furthermore, the Kardashians are more than just reality television royalty — they are also successful businesswomen. They own Dash, a retail store with several locations, including New York, Miami, and West Hollywood. Furthermore, they also each have their own business ventures, including Kylie’s lip line.
And, we can not forget. They are pretty successful in their social media game too. Kim Kardashian has 107 million followers. Kylie Jenner has 102 million. Both of which post consistently — multiple times a day in fact. Kim is known for her many selfies and is constantly seen taking them.
You can say that they are successful in capitalizing the public’s interest and using it to their advantage. But, I must ask: why do we feed into the apple. And, better yet, why are we biting into it?
Personally, I am not a fan of the Kardashian-Jenners. I have respect for them and their success. But, they are not famous for their acting or their singing. They are famous for the sake of being famous as the dynasty of reality television.
Furthermore, what bothers me about them the most is the fact that they are flashy with their money and extremely materialistic. Who remembers the time that Kim Kardashian cried at her expensive vacation because she lost her diamond earring? Of course, losing an expensive or meaningful piece of jewelry is devastating, don’t get me wrong.
However, let me ask you this — why was she wearing expensive jewelry in the water in the first place? I know I wouldn’t.
Seeing that scene made me lose all respect for her, and Kardashian clan (with the exception of Caitlyn Jenner).
But, because their show (and several of the spin offs) was successful, they are considered reality royalty. However, take a look at some other reality stars. For instance, Lauren Conrad was the Kim Kardashian ten years ago. What separates Conrad from Kardashian is the fact that many viewers could relate to Conrad, whereas the Kardashian tend to be more over dramatic and high maintenance.
I don’t mean to diss those who love the show and the family. But, it bothers me that they are the top story on a news site. Therefore, please excuse me when I groan when I see Kylie’s face on TV.
