Start with what you eat

People don’t say “you are what you eat” for nothing. For example, while we tend to call it ‘comfort food’, several studies have indicated that fast food is linked to depression. Be active

You have probably already heard that exercising releases the so-called hormone of happiness – endorphin. This magical ingredient can help you feel good about yourself and ward off depression and anxiety. Being physically active on a regular basis will fight off stress at its very roots. Of course, it won’t be able to prevent your boss from ruining your day, but it will surely provide you with better coping mechanisms.

Train your mind

What’s the use of letting your muscle doing all the heavy lifting when your mind is the one primarily affected by stress? Good news! You can train your mind into having a more positive attitude toward life. Try not to look at every bad situation as something that will wreck havoc on your life.

Most of the things people are stressed about are either easily solvable or they’ll pass without major consequences. Even if that is not the case, looking at the given situation positively will make you more motivated to solve the problem or help you deal with it in a better way.

Get help

You don’t have to do everything on your own. When it comes to coping with stress and anxiety, help can come in various forms. One of them is a conversation. Depending on your needs that conversation can be with a trained professional, support group, or a good friend. Everything helps.

Also, help can come in the form of natural herbal teas and remedies. When you decide on this option, make sure you have chosen a remedy which doesn’t contain harmful ingredients and can’t affect your daily functioning. Lavender tea is a good example.

Get some sleep

Being sleep deprived, even just for a short period, can increase stress hormones. That’s why you need to prioritize getting a high-quality shut-eye every night and even taking power naps during the day.

Now, the problem with stress is that it is precisely the thing that keeps you up at night, so this may turn into an infinite loop if you don’t put an end to it soon.

Some of the things that can help you get a long-lasting relaxing sleep are natural remedies such as valerian root and chamomile, certain herbal supplements, and a comfortable and supportive mattress and pillow.

Deep breathing, meditation, and yoga

Listen to your breathing. Do you take shallow anxious-like breaths? This is not how it is supposed to be. You should be taking deep and full breaths. This sounds like an irrelevant thing comparing to the amount of stress you are probably facing with, but it can, in fact, have a profound impact on resetting the stress response.

Going hand in hand with deep breathing, meditation can help you soothe your mind and look at things from a different perspective. Practicing yoga is believed to have relaxing effects on the body and the mind, as well.

Get some ‘me time’

Between your career, household, and social life, it is understandable that it is difficult to stop, smell the roses, and binge-watch your favorite TV show, or whatever else is your cup of tea.

However, taking some time for yourself is essential for coping with stressors of the outside world. Try not to take on more tasks than you really have to or break large tasks into smaller ones. Make time for hobbies and socializing with the people that have a positive effect on you.
