Concept Korea: Brings again the best of K-Wave To New York Fashion Week
For those not in the know, Concept Korea is the brainchild of South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as the Korean Creative Contents Agency. Each season, the two choose Korean designers to feature at New York Fashion Week and this year two designers got the opportunity to showcase at one of the major fashion weeks in the world – NYFW!
First up was Lee Chung Chung with LIE. His concept centered around “PERFECT IMPERFECTION : PERFECTLY I’M PERFECT.”
Inspired by the modern-day evolution of femininity, the collection revolves around the different stages of a flower: from its tough exterior as a tiny bulb, through its delicate blossoming petals, and achieving a final display of heavenly bloom and aura.
Second came designer Younhee Park of GREEDILOUS’. The collection, “BOTANICA EXOTICA”.
Inspired by the beautiful fantasy jungle in James Cameron’s film “Avatar” and the cheerful, bright collage-style paintings of Brazilian artist Bruno Novelli, Designer Younhee Park used simple silhouettes with beautiful ruffle details, while using her signature playfully melded prints. Images of the tropical rainforest are manipulated to create a supernatural hallucination effect, which is at the core of the brand’s iconic DNA.
The show featured 26 looks for LIE and 26 from GREEDILOUS, opening and closing with model (and mother of Elon Musk), Maye Musk.
Notable attendees included Fern Mallis, Simon Collins, Ty Hunter, Alla Kostromichova and Gabriela Dias.
