Brand to watch | ONAR STUDIOS

 In Fashion

From the cold and snowy Finland to worldwide, ONAR STUDIOS is one of the IT brand of this season and definitely a talent to watch for the next Spring/Summer 2018.

ONAR was a Vogue Talents Finalist of 2016 and is an Helsinki-based design house established in 2014 by Irene Kostas. Irene was a real pioneer in the use of ethical and ecological shearling, and so her brand is specialized in high-quality shearling clothes and accessories, leather bags and unisex ready-to-wear.

ONAR is the fusion of unlikely matches. In the collections soft materials meet geometric forms, richness of texture meets minimalism, organic meets plastic and the stark architectural lines meet the mystical. Tradition and the craftsmanship heritage of Kostas’ family is taken into future. All items are handcrafted in Finland and in Greece, in districts that have taken pride in their skilled leatherwork.

Today I will show you the iconic pieces of the current collection and also an hint of the upcoming S/S that will enshrine much more the global brand’s success.

The Kriket coat in merino in powerful color is a must to have to bright up every basic look, the Maya coat is reversible so you can wear it both with the Toscana shearling outside or nappa leather while the Yilin bomber gives a strong and cool touch. As accessories, the colorful colar, the warm hat and fluffy gloves are the final icing on the cake for a sophisticated yet contemporary look.

About the Spring/Summer, the pieces are girly but with an independent attitude. The moment I saw the collection I had in my mind “Indipendent woman” by Destiny’s Child as soundtrack and I think that the women sang by the trio and also by Beyonce, all of them would love to wear at least an ONAR STUDIOS piece. From the jackets to the skirts passing by the hoodies, the designer conceives a line of clothing where innovation is not to be afraid to move seemingly distant materials and make them harmonious and finally close. Where shapes and textures are unpublished but with a high portability rate. Innovation that does not forget tradition, craftsmanship and stylistic heritage, but takes a step forward not in the present, but with an eye to tomorrow.

Both the collections are a praise to the subject of contrast: present, past, translations and experimentation, luxury and casual wisdom for the modern woman, divided into thousand commitments, which is divided and plays between urban and contemporary.
