My Birthday Beauty Haul – Review and Swatches!
Even at the age of 37 I still love birthdays! I probably love them more now than when I was younger as now I can buy presents for myself! My birthday is in August and this year there were some great beauty releases during that period so of course I decided to treat myself!
So, what did I buy?
I was pretty spoilt for choice, but I managed to narrow my haul down to the following lovely items:
· Urban Decay’s After Glow Highlighter palette
· Laura Geller’s Iconic New York Collection Eyeshadow palette
· Laura Geller’s Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Diamond Dust
· Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment in Starwoman
· Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow in Ballet Baby
· Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick in Heat Metallized
· Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide on Eye Liners in Torch and Alkaline
1. The After-Glow palette
The colours in this palette are gorgeous! If you read my last post on highlighters you’ll know I am in love with them, I never have enough of them! These highlighters are soft and buttery and very pigmented, as is always the case with Urban Decay products. They can be subtle or built up and each colour is unique! Check out my swatches:
2. The Iconic New York palette
I cannot believe I never tried Laura Geller eyeshadows until this palette! The quality is excellent, and they are so soft and creamy – blending them is easy! The colour intensity is also amazing, I have used this palette so many times since I bought it! If you have never tried Laura Geller makeup I definitely recommend you do – look at the colour swatches:
3. The Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator
Even though I bought the Urban Decay After Glow palette I had to buy this highlighter too! It was a limited edition and the colour is so pretty! It is a pink iridescent tone which catches the light well and is very pigmented – a little goes a long way! Check out the swatch above!
4. Nars Powermatte Lip Pigment & Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow
The Nars Powermatte lip pigment is beautiful. The colour is rich and opaque and although it seems to be very runny as a liquid, it quickly dries on the lips and doesn’t move. This red shade is perfect for the festive season and can be worn alone or under a glitter or shimmer lip topper! It doesn’t dry out the lips and you don’t need a lip liner with it either because the wand tip can be used to line the lips!
The Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter and Glow eyeshadow is one of my favourite Stila inventions! I already have a few of these in my makeup arsenal but I loved this one for the lilac colour. As with the other Glitter and Glow eyeshadows, this one is super sparkly and can be used as an all over eyeshadow or as a glitter liner if applied with an eyeliner brush!
5. Urban Decay’s Vice Lipstick & 24/7 Glide on Eyeliners
All these items were from the newly released Naked Heat collection. When the palette came out I took a while to decide whether to buy it (I did eventually!) but with these products there was no hesitation! The lipstick colour is a gorgeous warm red-brown shade with glitter pigments which applies easily and stays put for hours – perfect for Autumn! The eyeliners are also lovely colours and as the name suggests, they glide onto the eye without pulling the delicate skin or losing colour pay off. They are super soft and creamy and can be blended to create a smokier effect and can also be used on the water lines which I love to do to complete an eye look. I have used all of these products numerous times and still love the results!
Here are the swatches for the last few items:
Aren’t the colours amazing? If you love your warm Autumn colours you should try these!
Months after my birthday, I am still using these makeup products and enjoying the different looks they allow me to create! They are all versatile and can be used on most skin tones but particularly suit olive and medium tones. None of them were too costly and can be used all year round so it is worth having a closer look at them when you are next looking for a beauty fix!
